CS371p Spring 2021: Week 7

What did you do this past week?

This past week, I had 3 exams plus the Voting project. Most of my time was spent studying for those exams and polishing the Voting project. In addition, a majority of my assignments were pushed back to this week, so I spent an ample amount of time finishing those up as well.

What’s in your way?

The slump before Spring break is in my way. Now that Spring break is only one week away, I always tend to slow down and get really lazy. I need to power through this week and finish up all of my work so I can enjoy my Spring break with no work on my mind.

What will you do next week?

Next week is much easier for me in terms of school workload as most of my exams were this past week. I need to, however, pack up and get ready to go home this coming Saturday which is always a tall task for me.

If you read it, what did you think of the Open-Closed Principle?

I really enjoyed reading the article on the Open-Closed Principle as it touched on topics that I had learned in previous classes such as Data Structures, but it went into the thinking behind it. As part of preparing for recruiting, I started doing more practice on Object-Oriented Design questions and this is another design choice I can add to my toolkit.

What was your experience of arrays, iterators, and algorithms?

I previously knew about arrays, iterators, and algorithms before, but definitely not at the depth that Professor Downing went into. I think it’s incredibly interesting to learn how C++ containers are different and each one has pros and cons.

What made you happy this week?

This weekend, one of my close childhood friends came to Austin and we spent some time together, which was really nice because I haven’t seen him in a long time. In addition, I got to play some basketball at the end of the week, so it was really nice to get some exercise.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My pick-of-the-week is a Mac application called CopyClip. This app is extremely helpful because it stores up to the past 20 things you copied onto a clipboard that sits on the top of your menu bar. When I’m coding, it’s extremely helpful because I can save things on the clipboard and it has definitely sped up my development time. In addition, it’s free and it sits nicely at the top of your screen!
